A Silver Coin for a Shining Example
The coronation of Her Majesty The Queen was broadcast live on television; the first time this private and traditional ceremony had been shared with the public. It marked a new beginning in the relationship between the monarchy and the people and later that day, The Queen reflected on this during a radio broadcast:
“The ceremonies you have seen today are ancient...veiled in the mists of the past. But their spirit and their meaning shine through the ages never, perhaps, more brightly than now.”
Today, 65 years later, we celebrate this landmark anniversary with a sterling silver £5 coin, struck to The Royal Mint’s Proof quality. The coin’s reverse features an exclusive design by Royal Mint graphic designer Stephen Taylor, which depicts the traditional yet instantly familiar Royal Standard. Around its edge are inscribed the words ’Shine Through The Ages’, a tribute to the loyalty and devotion shown by Her Majesty in the 65 years since she made that speech. Each of the 6,500 coins is presented in a case complete with a booklet that tells the story of the coronation day and Her Majesty’s loyalty to public service.
